What To Expect

DAY 01: NAIROBI – ARRIVAL & URBAN ENDURANCE ORIENTATION

Arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and transfer to hotel. Afternoon endurance walk inside Karura Forest, a reclaimed colonial estate now functioning as one of Nairobi’s most successful urban conservation zones. Mixed gravel trails, light elevation, waterfalls and forest canopy provide ideal acclimatization terrain. Also you can opt for the Oloolua Nature Trail.

The session focuses on pacing strategy, hydration discipline, injury prevention, and expedition safety standards. This is an orientation day controlled but purposeful with a distance of 8–10 km warm-up trek.

DAY 02: MOUNT LONGONOT – VOLCANIC CRATER TREK

Transfer to Mount Longonot in the Great Rift Valley. “Longonot” originates from the Maasai word Oloonong’ot meaning “mountains of many spurs.” Steep volcanic ascent through loose rock and exposed ridges to the crater rim. Full circumvention of the crater narrow sections, sharp gradients, sustained cardio demand. This is the point where the program shifts from recreational hiking to genuine expedition trekking.

DAY 03: HELL’S GATE NATIONAL PARK – ROCK & CANYON EXPEDITION

Transfer to Hell’s Gate National Park, named by early explorers for its geothermal steam vents. Technical trekking through gorges carved by ancient volcanic activity. Scrambling sections near Fischer’s Tower named after German explorer Gustav Fischer. Optional endurance cycling across open plains among giraffe and zebra. Geology, geothermal activity, and physical challenge combine into a high-output day.

DAY 04: ABERDARE RANGES – HIGHLANDS TREK

Transfer into the Aberdare Ranges for a full-day highland trekking experience. Traverse misty forested ridges and open moorlands, encountering diverse flora and fauna unique to this ecosystem. Guided by local naturalists, learn about indigenous land-use, watershed systems, and historical wildlife corridors. The terrain is remote with minimal tourism, offering an authentic wilderness immersion. End the day with a scenic descent to a highland eco-lodge for overnight stay.

DAY 05: LOITA HILLS – MAASAI HIGHLANDS & “FOREST OF LOST THINGS” TREK

Transfer into Maasai territory in the Loita Hills for a full-day expedition combining high-altitude ridge trekking and an endurance crossing into the sacred forest ecosystem. Begin on elevated ridges overlooking the Rift escarpment, guided by Maasai interpreters who explain clan land systems, grazing corridors, and warrior trail routes historically used by morans (young Maasai warriors). Continue across the Loita Plains into the “Forest of Lost Things,” a sacred area rarely accessed by mainstream tourism. Terrain navigation is fully natural, with wildlife tracking fundamentals introduced. Camp under the open sky for a true wilderness immersion.

DAY 06: LOITA TO MAASAI MARA – ECOSYSTEM TRANSITION WALK

Gradual descent on foot into the greater Mara ecosystem. Entry into Big Five territory through traditional foot access rather than vehicle. Discussion of wildlife migration corridors and human-wildlife coexistence pressures. Arrival at private conservancy bordering the Maasai Mara.

DAY 07: MAASAI MARA – GUIDED PLAINS WALK

Sunrise walking safari with armed ranger escort. Tracking zebra, antelope, giraffe and interpreting spoor, grassland ecology and predator-prey dynamics. The Mara is presented as a functioning savannah system not a vehicle-based wildlife spectacle. Afternoon structured recovery session including guided stretching and mobility drills.

DAY 08: NGONG HILLS – ENDURANCE RIDGE CHALLENGE

Transfer to Ngong Hills. The name derives from the Maasai “enkong’u emuny” meaning “rhinoceros spring.” Full ridge traverse with constant elevation change and exposed wind conditions. Terrain used by Kenyan endurance athletes and military training units. This serves as the final physical benchmark of the expedition.

DAY 09: NAIROBI – REFLECTION & DEPARTURE

Day 10: Masai Mara – Wildlife Immersion

Continue your exploration of the Masai Mara, focusing on areas rich in predators, herbivore herds, and bird species. Guides will interpret animal behavior, territorial patterns, and seasonal changes across the reserve. A final sunset drive offers unforgettable views of the Mara landscape.

Day 11: Masai Mara – Nairobi & Departure

After breakfast, fly from the Masai Mara to Wilson Airport. Enjoy a farewell lunch at the iconic Carnivore Restaurant before your private transfer to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your international departure.
